Pakistan, New Zealand captains unveil Test series trophy and it has a unique name
Pakistan have played 55 Tests against New Zealand so far, winning 24 and losing 10 while 21 have been drawn.
Nowadays, cricket events that Pakistan play are making the headlines also for reasons that are not related to the game. One such reason is the shape and name of trophies that the Men in Green have played for – first against Australia and now New Zealand. On Thursday, captains of the two sides unveiled the trophy for which they will be playing in a three-Test series starting Friday and it is called ‘Oye Hoye Cup’. The first Test begins at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on Friday.
The trophy for recent Pak-Aus T20I series also caught eyes
Recently, a biscuit-shaped trophy over which Pakistan and Australia locked horns in a three-T20I series left the social media in splits. The trophy had a unique look since its chief sponsor was a biscuit brand from Pakistan. Sarfraz Ahmed’s men, however, did not mind the shape of the trophy as they thumped the opponents 3-0 in the series to continue with their dominating show in the shortest format. Pakistan backed the performance with yet another 3-0 win over New Zealand.
On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted on its official Twitter account pictures from the ceremony where Sarfraz and his Kiwi counterpart Kane Williamson unveiled the ‘Oye Hoye Cup’ and like the ‘biscuit’ trophy, this one also flirted with the netizens’ sense of humour. In terms of looks, however, the trophy was more conventional than the one used in the Pakistan-Australia T20I series.
On the ground, Pakistan have made a solid comeback since their debacle in the Asia Cup played at ‘home’ UAE in September. They were thrashed twice in the tournament by arch-rivals India and also lost to Bangladesh and failed to make the finals. The performance came under heavy criticism from their fans and former players. Since then, Pakistan have beaten Australia 1-0 in a two-Test series, 3-0 in a T20I series and defeated New Zealand 3-0 in a T20I series and drew them 1-1 in a three-match ODI series with the decider getting washed out by rain.
