With Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand set to kick-off tomorrow, veteran all-rounder Abdul Razzaq got talking about the much-anticipated fixture. The 38-year-old believes Pakistan now have the quality to challenge New Zealand both with the bat and ball, as he admitted that Kiwis are a tough side to beat.
Looking at Pakistan’s recent record, they have become a force to be reckoned with. Although Pakistan, who are the number two team in T20Is has been unpredictable at times, they are now showing signs of consistency, opined Razzaq. Coming on the back of a nine-match winning streak, the Men in Green will aim to extend their unbeaten run in the opener at Wellington. Pakistan scored an impressive 341 for 9 and bowled equally well against a New Zealand XI to win their warm-up fixture
However, they will face an uphill task to adjust to the Kiwi conditions with overnight rain forecast and strong winds during the day, which could pose problems for Pakistan’s batsmen. Talking to The Express Tribune, former all-rounder said, “If you look at the New Zealand’s record at home, they have a good winning average against Pakistan. They have won more matches and overall, they always perform well in their home conditions. The way they won the tour match against New Zealand XI is a sign of good things to come.”
Pakistan will have limited options in the bowling department
Pakistan’s bowling ranks, on the other hand, are limited with the loss of speedster Junaid Khan and spinner Imad Wasim. These absences can be expected to take a huge toll on Pakistan’s lethal bowling attack. But the squad boasts of having world’s top-ranked ODI bowler, Hasan Ali which will come as a confidence booster. Razzaq has also put his weight behind in-form Shadab Khan.
