Pakistan offspinner Bilal Asif reported for suspect bowling action: Pakistan off-spinner Bilal Asif, who has sent waves down the shore following his international debut in the second game of the recently concluded series vs Zimbabwe has been reported for suspect bowling action. Asif broke Zimbabwe’s back with his splendid performance, taking 5 wickets spending just 25 runs and a vital knock of 38 runs in the third ODI to help Pakistan win the series 2-1. Playing just his 2nd ODI, Asif was the standout player as Pakistan avoided a first-ever ODI series loss to Zimbabwe.

According to reports, Bilal’s action was reported after match officials reviewed video footage of the off-spinner from the 3rd ODI in which Pakistan cruised to a 7-wicket win. The news comes as a blow to the Pakistan team after the promising bowler and all-rounder became only the fourth spinner to dismiss five or more batsmen in an ODI without any help from other fielders.

This is not the first time that a Pakistan spinner has been reported for suspect action. Earlier two of their seasoned off-spinners, Mohamad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal have already been reported and banned for bowling with illegal bowling actions. Ajmal managed to clear his remodeled action while Hafeez has been banned from bowling in the international arena for 1 year.

Pakistan retained Bilal for the Zimbabwe ODI series to assess his credentials ahead of a Test series against England in the UAE and to fill the void left by Mohammad Hafeez in the spin department. This will come as a huge setback for Pakistan and their plans since Asif was certainly a vital cog in the squad composition.
