Young Pakistan batsman Babar Azam will take part in the forthcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Azam has made giant rapid strides in international cricket ever since he made his international debut in 2015. He had a decent outing in Pakistan’s recent Champions Trophy triumph scoring 133 runs at 44.33.
Guyana procures the services of Babar
According to PakPassion, Azam has signed for Guyana Amazon Warriors. The 22-year old has impressed everyone with his technique and unquenchable zeal of getting big scores in limited overs cricket. He averages in excess of 50 in both ODIs and T20Is for Pakistan, though it is still early days in his career. The Lahore-born batsman will be keen to make an impact on his CPL debut.
Guyana is a team which boasts of big players like Chris Lynn and Dwayne Smith: both popular T20 players around the world. They did exceeding well last season to finish second in the points table. But a batting collapse in the finals meant that they lost to Jamaica Tallawahs in a fairly lopsided final held at the Warner Park last year.
Babar to add value in the absence of Lynn
This will be the fifth edition of the CPL, which has received a lot of success ever since its first season was rolled out in 2013. Six teams participate in this tournament which will begin on August 4. Guyana might have recruited Azam as a replacement for Chris Lynn, who is set to miss the CPL in order to fix his troubled shoulder. This will be a great learning curve for the young Azam, who will only get better after his stint in the Caribbean.
Babar Azam has so far appeared in 49 T20 games and has scored 1389 runs at 39.68. He has recorded 9 half centuries and holds a strike rate of 114.41. With time and experience, Azam is bound to improve on his career strike rate which is a tad on the lower side for today’s day and age.
