Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed aims to score 500 or 600 against Bangladesh

On June 5, Pakistan take on Bangladesh in what could have been a brilliant encounter, had England lost to either India or New Zealand. However, the hosts won both those matches and have practically knocked out the Men in Green out of the semi-finals race in the World Cup 2019. But it seems that they have decided to go all guns blazing in their last league match rather than complaining about the fate.

The Sarfaraz Ahmed & Co. have only themselves to blame for where they have ended up. They lost badly to West Indies, getting bowled out for just 105 runs and then India defeated them. The encounter against Australia should have been theirs, while they beat England handsomely. However, their net run rate took a hit with that Windies and Afghanistan match, where they won the game in the last over.

Sarfaraz Ahmed says the team is aiming to post a massive score

The Men in Green have to beat the Tigers by at least 316 runs if they bat first and if Bangladesh bats first, then it is the end for them in the tournament. The task is near impossible, but it looks like their skipper has not lost hope and most importantly, his sense of humour. On the eve of the match, Sarfaraz attended the press conference at Lord’s and made a startling statement.

“It is very difficult, 316 runs is a big margin. Only if you’re batting first if you score 600 runs or 500 runs. I don’t know what the study is behind this, but I can’t do anything… definitely, we’re interested in finishing on a high note. So we will try our best in tomorrow’s match,” the keeper-captain said answering a question.

Pakistan has been beaten in four previous meetings against their South Asian rivals and the skipper hopes that they will be able to change the result this time around. “If you talk about the previous matches, yes, Pakistan lost four, but it is a World Cup match. Both teams look stronger, so hopefully we will do well as a team,” Sarfaraz added.

The match will be the last World Cup encounter for Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, who is in the twilight of his career. Mortaza already has a career in the politics lined up but is eyeing to play for the team a bit longer. Their coach Steve Rhodes mentioned that the team is desperate to give their skipper a winning sendoff, as it will be an emotional moment for not only him, but the whole unit.
