The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to host the remaining 20 matches of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Ahead of the resumption, the authorities allowed all the six franchises to add two new players to their squad to make it a 20-member squad. The development came in view of the challenges posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On Saturday, May 22, all the six franchises were provided with an opportunity to modify their squads online and pick two new players for their teams. After the online session, Pakistan Super League organisers released an official statement stating that the franchises have chosen a total 12 players. Further, it is learned that the teams including Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars haven’t selected the 20th player and will be going ahead with a 19-member squad.

“Earlier, it was decided that all teams will be allowed 20-member squads and the teams submitted a total of 12 picks which included replacement as well as the 19th and 20th player submissions for some of the teams. Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars have not made selections for their 20th player which they will make later, if needed,” the official press release said.

The press release further clarified that the availability of the players will depend on meeting travel and quarantine requirements for the Abu Dhabi-leg. Though PCB has received required permission for hosting the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, the Abu Dhabi government has imposed strict quarantine protocols and other guidelines for all the players and other members.
