Pakistan v Australia: Aaron Finch terms Glenn Maxwell a nightmare for opposition captains
Maxwell played a match-winning knock of 71 runs off just 55 balls in the third ODI against Pakistan.
The Australian team has regained form with ODI series wins over India and Pakistan in their own dens. Defending World Champions Australia defeated India 3-2 in India and has won the first three ODIs of the five-match series against Pakistan in the UAE.
One person has been at the forefront of his revival of fortunes and his name is Glenn Maxwell, who routed India in the two-match T20I series, hitting a scintillating century in Bengaluru and has now helped the team take an unassailable 3-0 lead over Pakistan. Maxwell hammered 71 off 55 balls to propel the total beyond 250, before picking a wicket in bowling out Pakistan for 186.
People expect so much from him
Captain Aaron Finch, who has been in wonderful form, hitting two centuries in three ODIs against Pakistan, called Glenn Maxwell a wonderful player to have in the team. “Maxi is a player who people expect so much from every time he plays because he has so much brilliance at times. But I think what people don’t see at times when they get frustrated with him, is the amount of stuff he does in the field. If he averages 20 in a series, he might save 20 runs in the field as well,” he was quoted as saying by News18.
Finch called Glenn Maxwell the complete package as someone who also bowls a couple of overs and picks wickets. He also mentioned that with the all-rounder batting at no.6 has added some firepower to Australia in death overs, something that fits his role in the team.
“Guys who can hit the ball 360 [degrees] are so hard to bowl to. As a captain, they’re a nightmare. There’s a handful of them in the world now. You’ve got Jos Buttler, who can scoop you over the keeper’s head, but also hit over mid-off. They’re two obvious places where you always have a fielder up when you’ve got five [fielders outside the 30-yard circle]. When you need both of them out, it creates some problems. Maxi is no different to that,” Finch signed off.
