Pakistan v Sri Lanka 2017, 5th ODI – Statistical Highlights

Pakistan completed their first 5-match ODI series whitewash in nine years after a huge 9-wicket win in the 5th and final ODI at the Sharjah against Sri Lanka. The new pacer Usman Khan Shinwari ripped through the Sri Lankan top order inside his first four overs as they were bowled out for 103. Pakistan chased down the target in 20.2 overs for the loss of one wicket.

2 – Usman Khan became the 2nd Pakistan player to take a 5-wicket haul as early as in 2nd ODI of his career. Bilal Asif also picked up a 5-fer in his 2nd ODI while Abdul Qadir bagged in his 3rd ODI.
2 – Sadeera Samarawickrama became the 2nd Sri Lankan after Susil Fernando to register ducks in first two ODI matches in a career. Overall, he is the 22nd player to bag ducks in first two ODI games.
3 – For the 3rd time in 2017, Sri Lanka got whitewashed in a 5-match ODI series. They lost to South Africa in South Africa and against India at home earlier this year. They became the 1st team to be whitewashed three times in a 5-match ODI series in a year. Windies and Zimbabwe were whitewashed two times each in 5-match ODI series in 2008.
14 – Number of wickets Hasan Ali has picked up in this series. These are the joint 2nd most for any fast bowler in a 5-match bilateral ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah picked up 15 wickets in the recent series against Sri Lanka while Clint McKay also picked 14 in 2009 against Pakistan.
14 – Hasan Ali’s 14 wickets are the 2nd most for a Pakistan bowler in a bilateral series. Naved-ul-Hasan picked up 15 wickets in a 6-match ODI series against India in 2005 which was played in India.
20 – Number of ODI matches Sri Lanka have lost in 2017 so far. These are the most number of loss for them in a calendar year in ODI cricket. Sri Lanka lost 20 ODIs in 1999 out of the 34 they played.
21 – Balls Usman Khan needed to complete his 5-wicket haul. These are the 3rd fewest any bowler taken for their 5-wicket haul in ODI cricket since 2001. Chaminda Vaas needed only 16 balls for his 5-fer in the 2003 World Cup game against Bangladesh while Netherlands’ Tim van der Gugten needed 20 balls against Canada in an ODI in 2013.
90 – Pakistan now has won 90 ODI matches against Sri Lanka. These are the joint most number of wins for any team against any opposition. Australia also defeated New Zealand on 90 occasions in ODI cricket.
103 – Sri Lanka’s 103-run total is their 2nd lowest ODI total after electing to bat first. Their lowest total after electing bat first in an ODI was 102 against Windies in 1996 at Brisbane. This is also their 2nd lowest total against Pakistan in ODIs after their 78/10 in 2002 which was also at Sharjah.
2509 – Number of balls bowled in this series without a No-Ball. These are the 4th most number of balls bowled in an ODI series/tournament without a no-ball. The 2011 ODI series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe had 2726 balls, the last year’s India-New Zealand series had 2678 balls with this year’s New Zealand-South Africa had 2512 balls without a no-ball.
