Pakistan v West Indies 3rd T20I – Statistical Highlights

It was yet another one-sided contest in the 3rd T20I of the Pakistan vs West Indies series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. They had won batting first, they had won bowling first as well in the previous two games so Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed didn’t really mid doing either. The coin, it once again flipped his way and so he decided to invite the West Indians to set them a target. He trusted his bowlers as well as the batsmen to do well even if they posted a big total and it paid off as nothing of that sort happened.

All West Indies managed in their share of 20 overs and despite losing just 5 wickets was 103 runs. The top order was dismissed early, the middle order was held together by Marlon Samuels who played a slow knock in his attempt to save the nose but it did dip into the water and they drowned. It was never going to challenge the Pakistani batsmen in the form they have shown off late and proved to be an easy victory as they strolled past the total in 15.1 overs with 8 wickets in hand. 11 – In the T20I series, the Pakistani bowlers took 11 wickets in powerplay overs. It is the record for the most number of wickets for the team in a bilateral T20I series. This also happens to be the most wickets West Indies has lost in the powerplays in a bilateral T20I series

18 – Number of overs bowled by Pakistan left-arm bowlers in this match. These are the most overs bowled by left-armers in a T20I innings. The previously registered record for the same was: 16 overs on 3 occasions, all by Pakistan.

18 – Number of wickets picked by Pakistan’s left-arm bowlers in the series. It is the most for a team in a bilateral T20I series. The previous best was 14 for Bangladesh vs Ireland in 2012.

54.85 – Pakistan’s batting average vs West Indies in 2016. This is the second best among all the major teams in a series which composed of 3 or more T20I matches. The highest record is held by Team India as they scored runs at 63.55 vs Australia in the series in 2016.

71 – The West Indian batsmen scored just 71 runs in powerplays collectively in all the 3 matches of this series. In the 1st T20I that they played before this series against India in the USA they had scored 78 runs.

71.18 – Marlon Samuels’ strike rate is the second-lowest by a batsman who faced 50 or more deliveries in a T20I. The lowest is 70.37 by Scotland’s Navdeep Poonia.

103/5 – West Indies’ total of 103 for 5 is the lowest by a team that batted the full quota of 20 overs and lost 5 or fewer wickets. The previous lowest was 113/5 v England 2011.

103/5 – This is the second lowest total for West Indies in a T20I where they have batted first and played out all the 20 overs. The least they scored was 96/9 vs Ireland on 21 February 2014.
