Former Australian cricketer, Damien Fleming has come out with a new argument recently for a rule change. The Western Australia cricketer urged the authorities to work on the upgrade after Day 1 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and Australia which is currently being played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Fleming said that he wants the ‘leg-bye’ to be banned. According to the rule, a leg-bye is a run scored by the batting team when the ball hits any part of the batsman’s body or the protective gear. However, there are two conditions either of which are to be fulfilled if the run is to be awarded.

The first condition is that a batsman should offer a shot. In case he misses the ball then and it hits his body, a leg-bye can be taken. The second condition is when the batsman tries to avoid being hit by a ball and if it hits his body, a leg-bye can be taken. This extra cannot be taken when there isn’t any shot offered by the batsman.

Damien Fleming terms ‘leg-bye’ to be batsman’s mistake

With the game getting more and more cruel for the bowlers, the Bowlologist has come out with a valid point. The pacer represented Australia in 20 Tests and picked up 75 runs. Further, he accounted for another 134 scalps in the ODI format of the game. Being a bowler, it is quite obvious that you wouldn’t want to concede runs even if the mistake is not on your side.

It is the batsman who falters with this shot, according to Fleming. “I will say again …..lets ban the Leg bye  #BatsmanErrorNoReward #PAKvAUS,” he tweeted.
