Pakistan registered their first win in the T20I format in nearly a year as they defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the first game of the 3-match T20I series. Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Naim added 71 for the first wicket but took 11 overs for it. They couldn’t accelerate towards the end and finished with 141/5. Pakistan’s chase began with their skipper and No.1 T20I batsman, Babar Azam bagging a duck. However, Shoaib Malik held one end to guide Pakistan in the chase. He scored an unbeaten 58 off 45 balls as Pakistan reached the target with only three balls to spare.

All the statistical highlights from Pakistan’s 5-wicket win against Bangladesh in the first T20I:

End of Pakistan’s winless streaks:

7 – This win brought an end to Pakistan’s 7-match streak without a win in T20I cricket. Their last win came in the 3rd T20I on South African tour at the start of 2019. Pakistan managed to win only one of their 10 T20Is last year. The win on Friday was Pakistan’s first at home in four matches in the T20I format.

5 – Pakistan also put an end to their 5-match losing streak while chasing. They lost each of their last five T20Is while chasing in 2019. Interestingly, The Men in Green won 11 consecutive matches while chasing between 2016 and 2018.

Bangladesh losing streak continues:

17 – Bangladesh has lost each of the 17 International matches they played against Pakistan in their own backyard. This was Bangladesh’s first appearance in international cricket on Pakistan soil since the 2008 Asia Cup.

Malik’s record in successful chases:

17 – Shoaib Malik now has remained unbeaten on 17 occasions in successful chases in T20I cricket; the most such times by any player in this format. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni share the second spot with 15 unbeaten innings in successful T20I chases.

A rare T20I duck for Babar:

36 – Number of innings Babar Azam has played before his maiden T20I duck; the 8th most number of innings batted by any player before their first duck in Men’s T20Is. Among Pakistan players, only Shoaib Malik (40) played more innings before first duck than Babar in the T20I format.

2 – Babar Azam became only the 2nd Pakistan captain to bag a duck in a Men’s T20I while opening the innings. Mohammad Hafeez bagged a golden duck during the 2012 Hambantota T20I against Sri Lanka.

Babar is also the 2nd captain from his country to bag a T20I duck on home soil. Sarfaraz Ahmed was dismissed on the first ball he faced during the 2017 Independence Cup match against World XI.

Tamim goes past Shakib:

1595 – Runs Tamim Iqbal has aggregated for Bangladesh in the T20I format. These are the most T20I runs by a player for Bangladesh surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s tally of 1567 runs.
