New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson has been officially ruled out of the ODI series against Pakistan due to a heel injury. The 27-year old, who was picked in the ODI squad for the first time since the 2017 Champions Trophy, was ruled out of the third T20I against Pakistan because of the same injury.
Meanwhile, the Kiwis are also dwelling over Todd Astle’s participation in the ODI series. The leg-spinner is certain to miss the first One-Dayer in Abu Dhabi on November 7th due to a knee trouble.
The management will assess whether he is fit enough to take part in the remaining ODIs. Astle has also been included in the three-match Test series, following the limited-overs leg, which is scheduled to begin on November 16th.
“Todd’s made good progress over the last couple of days and with his involvement in both the test and the ODI squads; we’re keen to give him every chance to be right” Gary Stead, the coach of New Zealand said as quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Ajaz Patel called up as a replacement for Todd Astle
New Zealand have called in left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel as a replacement for Todd Astle in the ODI squad. Patel, who made his international debut against Pakistan in the T20I series and looks all set to make his one-day debut and make a mark in it.
“It does present opportunity for Ajaz. He’s impressed us during the UAE tour so far and we have full confidence he can do the job for this team in the 50-over format”, Stead added further.
New Zealand have gone through the torrid tour of UAE so far. They have been flattened by the No. 1 T20 side Pakistan, who won the series by a 3-0 margin. Their bowlers have risen up to the occasion, however, their batting, barring Colin Munro and the skipper Kane Williamson have failed to put runs on the board.
The Kiwis will be looking for a quick turnaround in the ODI and the Test series and will be determined to put the T20I series behind them.
