Pakistani fans lay in to Rashid Khan after his send-off to Mohammad Nawaz
Rashid's stupendous spell also went in vain.
Rashid Khan celebrated his 20th birthday with a magical spell against Bangladesh at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and was touted to be a brute force to reckon in Afghanistan’s first match in the Super 4 of the 2018 Asia Cup against Pakistan at the same venue. He didn’t disappoint with the ball by any stretch of the imagination and finished with impressive figures of 10-0-46-3.
He got his first wicket in the form of Babar Azam, who scored 66 runs in 94 balls and threatened to take the match away from Asghar Afghan’s men. The batter couldn’t slide his foot back into the crease and he was subsequently stumped by Mohammad Shahzad. Asif Ali spanked him for a six over deep mid-wicket, however, the bowler made amends and nipped him out in the very next ball.
Pakistani supporters dissatisfied with Rashid
The 20-year-old was entrusted to bowl the penultimate over with Pakistan requiring 18 runs from 12 balls. In the third delivery, left-hander Mohammad Nawaz went for an almighty heave and saw his stumps clattered. The Nangarhar-born tweaker was jubilated following the dismissal, but during his celebrations, he was seen giving a send-off to the batsman.
Hasan Ali cleared his front leg and deposited him into the stands for a colossal six and brought the target down to 10 from the last over. Shoaib Malik played a dot delivery in the last over but scored 10 runs from the next couple of balls to hand Afghanistan a defeat by three wickets.
Aftab Alam, who bowled the last delivery, was distraught and broke down in tears. Rashid’s stupendous spell also went in vain. In the meantime, Twitter is highly dissatisfied with the send-off Rashid gave to Nawaz by twirling his fingers when the batsman was walking back.
