PSL 2019: Yasir Shah aims to become the best bowler of the tournament
Pakistani leg-spinner Yasir Shah has set his sight on the Best Bowlers Award for the 2019 Pakistan Super League edition.
Pakistani leg-spinner Yasir Shah has set his sight on becoming the best bowler of the 2019 Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition. After an impressive year in 2018 with the national team, the leggie is confident of performing at the highest standard in the tournament.
With conditions and pitches favouring spinners in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the leggie has to take the opportunity of picking up crucial wickets. Prior to the fourth season, Yasir has told that he has worked hard on his line and lengths.
“Wickets in the UAE [United Arab Emirates] are usually good for spinners and I will try to take maximum advantage of it,” Pakistan’s Test cricketer said. “My aim is to become the top bowler in this PSL.” While being asked on what the areas of improvement were in his bowling, the spinner was quick to point out that his googlies and sliders are results of his hard work in the nets.
“I have worked on my googly and sliders, and you will see the results in the ground. All the players in the league are top players. I don’t have any particular batsman in my sight but I will try to give my best regardless of whom I’m bowling to,” he responded assessing the expectations prior to the season.
Yasir Shah hopeful of Qalandars chances in PSL 4:
Shah will be plying his trade for the Lahore Qalandars, who finished last in all three editions of the PSL. This time around, they have appointed Mohammad Hafeez as the new captain, replacing Brendon McCullum. Moreover, the Fawad Rana-owned franchise has also roped in a number of overseas stars, including the likes of AB de Villiers. Yasir hopes that the Qalandars won’t let the fans return empty-handed.
“Everyone looks in very good form. I’m very hopeful that this time results will be very positive, we now have likes of [Muhammad] Hafeez, AB de Villiers, [and Carlos] Brathwaite in the squad and they all are very important players,” he was quoted as saying in Geo TV. Concluding the interview, Yasir said, “I’m hopeful that this time, the Qalandars will not let down the fans.”
Shah was the Qalandars’ leading wicket-taker last season with 11 wickets from 10 matches at an average and economy rate of 25 and 7.23 respectively.
