Pakistan’s captain Bismah Maroof to stay with her daughter in the Commonwealth Games village

Pakistan Cricket Board, on Wednesday (June 1), confirmed that Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof and her family will be accommodated at the Commonwealth Games village in Birmingham, England in July. Earlier, the Commonwealth Games Federation was criticised after several media reports said that Maroof’s daughter had been denied accreditation.

This speculation led to massive chaos as in that case, Bismah would’ve had to stay outside the Games village during the tournament. PCB cleared all confusion by averting such situations and announced an 18-member squad under this batter for a tri-series in Belfast. This series is scheduled to be played before the Commonwealth Games.

In an official statement, PCB’s head of women’s cricket Tania Mallick shared her gratitude towards the Commonwealth Games for accepting their request. She said: “I want to thank the Commonwealth Games for accepting our request to accommodate our captain Bismah Maroof’s family at the Games village which will allow her to focus on the task at hand without any worries about her young infant daughter.”

PCB’s parental policy allowed Bismah to travel with her kid and family even during the last Women’s World Cup in New Zealand, earlier this year. PCB’s chief selector Asmavia Iqbal said: “Not only our senior cricketers in the side display great cricketing acumen also our youngsters were outstanding and have raised their hands whenever the team needed them to. The tri-series in Ireland and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games will test the abilities of our players and I have all the belief in them that they will live up to the expectations and show consistent results.”

After a gap of 24 years, Cricket is returning to the Commonwealth Games with a Women’s T20 tournament. Pakistan is scheduled to face Australia and Ireland from July 16 – 24 in the tri-series. After that, Pakistan women will play against Barbados (29 July), India (31 July) and Australia (3 August) respectively in the Commonwealth Games.
