Pakistan’s Khurram Manzoor fined his match fee for using foul language

Khurram Manzoor, Pakistan Test cricketer, was fined 50% of his match fee for violating the disciplinary code of the Pakistan Cricket Board. He allegedly used immoral words and made offensive gestures towards Zafar Gohar, a bowler of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team during the match between KPK and Sindh at Rawalpindi Stadium on Tuesday in the ongoing Pakistan Cup.

Manzoor plays for Sindh in the Pakistan Cup and he made undignified gestures after scoring the fastest century of the domestic 50-over tournament. Manzoor scored an unbeaten knock of 118 runs off 61 balls to reach the century in 56 balls.

The bowler also used some harsh words and was given a warning by the umpires. But the batsman has been fined 50% of his match fees after the proceedings of the game were reviewed. The field umpires were Riazuddin and Rashid Riaz while match referee was Javed Malik and Khalid Mahmood was TV umpire.

“The players who violate rules of discipline will have to face the fine. There is no space for any player to violate rules,” said Malik.

Manzoor was included in the 2016 Asia Cup but his inclusion backfired as he could not do anything substantial and was consequently replaced by Ahmed Shahzad in the T20 world cup squad.

“The inclusion of Khurram backfired and as a chief selector, I take full responsibility. Call it an error of judgement or whatever, but we all have seen him scoring runs in domestic cricket and we gave him a chance. He didn’t grab it, it’s up to the player to justify his selection and in his case, he didn’t,” PCB chief selector Haroon Rashid told ESPN Cricinfo.

Measures against cricketers who violate the laws of the game are becoming stronger all over the world. Be it domestic or international cricket, domestic or international player, nobody is spared for anything that goes against the spirit of the game.
