Was not plesant watching Pakistan celebrate since we had lost: Alastair Cook

Pakistan beat England in the first Test match of the series by 75 runs at the Lord’s. After the historic win, Pakistan celebrated their win by performing a series of push-ups which was a tribute to their army camp which they had been a part of ahead of the series.

However, the England skipper Alastair Cook wasn’t happy with that and admitted that it wasn’t pleasant since they were emotional after losing the game. Younis Khan was the one who led the squad in performing the routine of push-ups followed by a military-style salute in front of the ground’s famous Pavilion.

Earlier, the Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq had celebrated his century in a similar fashion on Thursday. Misbah said that after he did that, the whole wanted to do that and they got the opportunity after the win.

“The team was really hoping that we get a chance because I got a chance after scoring a hundred,” said Misbah, the oldest man to score a Test hundred in 82 years, of his press-up celebration.

“I did that and everybody wanted to do that. That sends a small tribute to all those army men who were working really hard (with us),” the 42-year old added.

When asked about the views on Pakistan’s celebration, the England skipper said that at the emotional time, it was not a pleasant thing to see as far as England are concerned. “You don’t take any offence, but certainly at that emotive time, it’s not pleasant viewing. Certainly, when you’ve lost a game of cricket for the first 20 minutes or so it’s not pleasant.”

“They (Pakistan) are entitled to do what they want. It’s united them and shows what a challenge we’ve got. Hopefully, the cricketing gods might (turn in our favour at Old Trafford).” Cook concluded.
