As the year 2020 came to an end, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) felicitated the Pakistan players for their exemplary performances throughout the year by presenting them prestigious honours. Pakistan’s captain across all the three formats, Babar Azam made it big as he bagged the white-ball Cricketer of the Year Award.

Mohammad Hafeez, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf were in contention of winning this award, however, Babar beat all the three to name the prestigious honour of being the White-ball Cricketer of the Year. Babar was on fire throughout 2020 as he amassed a whopping 221 runs in just three One Day Internationals along with 276 runs in eight T20 Internationals.

Skipper also managed to score 338 runs in the purest format of the game at an average of 67.60. The 26-year-old scored a total of seven fifties and two hundreds across all the formats in 2020 for Pakistan. The past year was a memorable one for Azam as he was handed the responsibility of leading the team in Test matches too, making him the captain of the Men in Green in all the three formats.

Fawad Alam bags the Individual Performance of the Year award

The wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan was honoured with the Pakistan Test Cricketer of the Year award. The 28-year-old wicketkeeper aggregated 302 runs at an average of 43.14 in 2020. He did a fine job behind the stumps too as he executed 12 dismissals in 5 games.

Rizwan also ended his year on a high note as he performed exceptionally well in the first Test of the two-match series against New Zealand at Bay Oval. Though Pakistan lost the game, Rizwan played two match-defining knocks of 71 and 60 runs respectively. The wicketkeeper also essayed the role of a captain for the Men in Green in the Test match against New Zealand as Babar Azam was unavailable for selection due to his thumb injury.

The Individual Performance of the Year award went to the 35-year-old Fawad Alam for his scintillating century (102 runs) against the Black Caps in the second innings. Apart from this, the 17-year-old Naseem Shah won the Men’s Emerging International Cricketer of the Year as he scalped 12 wickets in five wickets in the previous year.
