After serving a 6-month ban, Pandurang Salgaonkar is all set to return as the curator at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The senior curator was under the scanner after the match-fixing allegations were made on him during the India-New Zealand series which took place in 2016.

After an ICC inquiry and various investigations, the ban was sanctioned as he failed to report the occurrence of all these illegal activities which disparages the spirit of the game. The investigation also concluded that there was no monetary offer made to the 68-year-old to change the nature of the pitch. Salgaonkar also lost his MCA managing committee member’s post from the Sindhudurg district following the incident.

Much to the delight of Salgaonkar, who previously represented Maharashtra in the First-Class level for over a decade, his re-appointment was confirmed by MCA secretary Riyaz Bagwan said the decision to this effect was taken by the association’s managing committee recently.

“He will be re-appointed on April 25, a day after his suspension ends. We have already spoken to him and he is willing to resume,” added Bagwan. Salgaonkar was the chief curator when Pune hosted it’s first ever Test match between India and Australia. He was bashed by a lot of critics for providing a rank-turner and the pitch was also termed “Poor” by the ICC.

Pune to host CSK’s remaining home games

It was a huge blow for the Chennai Super Kings and their fans to have lost the hosting rights to Pune. The matches which were supposed to be held in Chepauk were shifted to the MCA stadium courtesy various protests from Tamil actors and Politicians. Chennai will be up against the Rajasthan Royals on Friday to play their first match in Pune this season.

Salgaonkar will be the chief curator for most of these games. Pune has provided some memorable batting tracks in the IPL when the Pune franchise was still a part of the League. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of tracks will be on offer for Dhoni and troops.
