India’s tour of England starts in July, which begins with a 3-match ODI and T20I series followed by a five-match Test series. The Men in Blue have strained to perform in the country and have failed to put up performances in the past to take inspiration from. The conditions in the United Kingdom have been a major detriment for India and resultantly they have been beaten black and blue in the country.
They are currently the number one ranked Test team following their victory against South Africa in Johannesburg. The team has a captain in Virat Kohli who has shown resilience as the skipper, a quality which needs to come to the fore in order for the visitors to steamroll England in their own backyard. Meanwhile,wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel sounded confident about the upcoming stint.
The team has a lot of self-confidence
“I’ve already started preparing for it. Even during the IPL, I’ve been doing a lot of keeping drills instead of just focussing on my batting. These are exciting times for Indian cricket and after how we played in South Africa, I’m sure we’ll go to England with a lot of self-confidence,” Patel was quoted as saying by Sportstar in a recent interview.
The Indian team lost the first couple of Tests against the Proteas earlier this year where they had their moments to pounce on. However, the hosts outclassed them, which piled on their agony. However, they made a stupendous comeback and pinned South Africa at the Wanderers. Parthiv also spoke about the manner in which his team managed to soar from the slump and humble the Proteas.
“Throughout the Test, we believed that we could win the match. We always thought we were ahead of South Africa. I mean we were willing to continue with the game whereas they weren’t; that was quite evident. It was a great opportunity for us to show our strength; the kind of appreciation we got for winning on a pitch like that showed that we had the team to beat South Africa,” he added.
