The Test series between India and Australia is set to kick off on December 17 in Adelaide. Teams will have to put their best foot forward to steal glory in the big contest, especially when skipper Virat Kohli won’t be there to guide India in the last three Tests. In light of the Test event, Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has backed Wriddhiman Saha as the best wicket-keeping batsman in Test cricket at the moment.
Patel believes that Saha should be preferred over Rishabh Pant, who was picked ahead of him earlier this year. The selection of Pant over Saha turned fans furious the last time, and Patel feels that Saha is a better keeper than Pant any day. However, Pant marked a great start in his Test career and became the only Indian keeper to smash a ton in Australia and England in history.
I have always maintained, Saha is your best wicketkeeper-batsman in Test: Parthiv Patel
“I have always maintained that Saha is your best wicketkeeper-batsman in Test cricket. There is no comparison with anyone, as long as he is fit. As long as he is there, he should be keeping for India in Test cricket – whether you are playing abroad or India – Saha is your guy as long as he is fit,” said Patel to cricket.com.
Patel is of the opinion that if Saha is fit, he should be preferred over Pant as he has enough experience of keeping the wickets in the longest format of the game. He kept the wickets in five home matches the last year while he was up against South Africa, Bangladesh. Patel also added that KL Rahul is a great wicket-keeper but should be restricted to limited over only as he already has enough work on his shoulders.
“That’s a tough call. KL’s glovework is fantastic, there is no doubt about it. Test cricket is completely different. You have got to start ‘keeping in four-day cricket first. It’s not the easiest thing to do. I would give it a long thought before thinking that KL could do the job in all formats. But one-day, T20, definitely KL,” concluded Parthiv Patel.
