With the ICC T20 World Cup less than a year away, there is a constant debate in the cricket fraternity over who among Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should lead the Indian team in the marquee event. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel also contributed to this topic by stating that Rohit should lead India in the shortest format of the game as he is calmer and knows how to win big tournaments.

Parthiv had played under both Rohit and Virat. He was associated with the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, for three years from 2015 to 2017 while he is a part of Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2018. The wicketkeeper opined that Rohit is calmer and composed under pressure situations.

“I have played under both of them and that too for three years each. It is not that I have played under one captain for just a solitary year and for many years under the other.”

“The way Rohit Sharma does captaincy, I like it more, he is calmer on the ground, takes better decisions under pressure and according to me he is a better captain when it comes to building the team,” Parthiv Patel said while speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Rohit Sharma has more experience of handling the team: Parthiv Patel

The 35-year-old revealed that Rohit is more capable of taking tough decisions on the match field while Virat depends on the inputs from the other players to decide the strategy of the team. He also added that the MI skipper maintains his composure in crunch situations and is backed with more experience.

“I have seen Rohit Sharma taking decisions on his own in crunch situations while Virat depends a lot on other players when it comes to crunch situations.”

“When it comes to the pressure games, Rohit Sharma has more experience of handling the team, the way he takes on the spot decisions that go in the team’s favour.”

The Indian veteran, hailing from Ahmedabad, signed off saying that has nothing against the RCB captain but Kohli doesn’t know how to win tournaments like Rohit. He backed his claim by giving the example of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup where India under the leadership of Virat Kohli failed to lift the trophy.

“We are not saying that Virat Kohli is a bad captain, the thing here is which captain has won more tournaments. To win tournaments you need to know how you are going to win those tournaments.”

“Since Virat has not won at all, when it comes to the crunch situations you are behind a little in terms of decision making which happened with the Indian team in the 50-over World Cup or the Champions Trophy final,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
