Pat Cummins disgusted with the unbearable heat of Kolkata

Besides the wrist spinner and top-class batters, the thing which the Aussie players aren’t being able to cope up with on this India tour is the soaring temperature and humidity. The visitors are finding it tough to perform well in this unbearable heat and the result is right in front of us. They somehow salvaged a 1-1 draw against Bangladesh in the Test series, and are now being thrashed by Virat Kohli’s men.

Keeping Kuldeep Yadav‘s hat-trick aside, the Kangaroos were equally troubled by the excessively humid conditions of Kolkata, where the 2nd ODI was played. Australian speedster Pat Cummins, who happens to be the last wicket of Kuldeep’s stunning hat-trick, reckons that Kolkata’s conditions were as tough as that in Dhaka. The pacer honestly revealed that 50 overs in the scorching heat of Eden Gardens felt no less than 200 overs, as the players were floored after only a few overs.

“It felt similar to Dhaka, I reckon, just below Chittagong. But that’s the hottest one-day game anyone said they’ve played. I think the 50 overs felt like it was about 200 overs out there. You only had to look at ‘Wadey’ (Matthew Wade), it was 15 overs in and he was on all fours. So it’s not great condition,” said the man from Westmead, Sydney, while speaking to cricket.com.au.

“You pretty much try and change all your clothes because they’re just sodden through with sweat. If you’ve got strapping you try and get that re-strapped. You just try and get one or two overs just to cool down and have some ice blocks, change all your gear and try and freshen up,” the owner of 54 ODI wickets.

“It’s frustrating when it’s out of your control”

While Cummins was simply fuming with the weather of Kolkata, he couldn’t have controlled it to be in Australia’s favour. Something which his team could have controlled was the action inside the field, and the 24-year-old exclaimed that it is very frustrating when things are out of control, as the case was in the last game.

“As a player and a teammate, it’s frustrating when it’s out of your control. We got in a position in both games where we could’ve taken the game away from India. It was unfortunate that there was a couple of wickets but we’ve just got to try and find a way to fix that up. There’s still three games left so we can still win the series,” said ‘Cummo’.

He signed off stating that “I thought it was a great effort from the five or six bowlers. There were no big overs so I think to keep them to 250 on a really good batting wicket and batting conditions in the afternoon, I thought it was a great job.”
