The story of the struggle of brothers Yusuf and Irfan Pathan is known to all. Hailing from a very poor background, the two cricketers went on to represent the nation and were vital cogs of the Indian team during their time. Having earned a lot of respect and a better living with their game, the Pathan brothers are now lending support to those young talents in need of help, as they did to two young and budding cricketers from the Jammu & Kashmir in collaboration with the Indian Army.

Yusuf and Irfan were deprived of the state of the art facility which helps in the overall grooming of a talent. To ensure that the prodigies of the upcoming years don’t share the same fate as they did, the brothers founded the Cricket Academy of Pathans (CAP). The Pathans want the talents to have all the facilities at their disposal, which will help their growth and in turn the that of upcoming generations of Indian cricket.

Two young prodigies, Danish Qadeer (18 years) and Shahrukh Husssein (20 years) were selected by the Indian Army in the trials conducted in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir, to train in the CAP. “Kids were selected by the Indian army for which they had conducted trials at Kupwara district of J&K. Out of 100 cricket enthusiasts, two were selected by the Indian Army for training under CAP,” Irfan Pathan said while speaking to IANS on Monday.

“These kids have just enrolled in the academy. They would be going through the preliminary module of CAP and after completing the preliminary module they would advance to the other levels of CAP modules,” said the all-rounder when asked about the process that the two youngsters will go through.

“We are always there to support and promote cricket”

Irfan once again promised to support the beautiful game grow further and reach to those supremely talented youngsters who can’t afford the essentials for coaching, by saying “We are always there to support and promote cricket. It is a very noble move by the Indian Army to support these kids.”

CAP centers

While the two young talents from Jammu & Kashmir will train in the Noida centre of CAP, there are total six centres of CAP, in Noida, Port Blair, Raipur, Lunawada, Surat and Sonepat.
