Paul Adams tweets about Shivil Kaushik
Former South African chinaman spinner Paul Adams expressed his happiness on seeing Shivil Kaushik in action during the IPL. Shivil Kaushik playing for the Gujarat Lions has an action similar to that of Paul Adams. The action is unconventional and has kept the 20-year old Shivil in the news since he made his debut against the Rising Pune Supergiants at Pune.
Paul Adams, in his playing days, was nicknamed ‘gogga’. Gogga is an Afrikaans word for a gnat-like insect. His peculiar bowling style prompted his teammates to call him ‘gogga’. Adams’s bowling action was highly unorthodox and Mike Gatting likened it to a “frog in a blender”
Now, the Gujarat Lions fielded a bowler with similar action. Shivil Kaushik has a very rare and unorthodox bowling action too, that looks like an almost off-shoot of former South African bowler Paul Adams’ action. He runs in smoothly to the bowling crease, moves his body in the direction of the cover fielder and head towards mid-off at the onset of delivering the ball. He is a back-of-the-hand bowler and as his coaches believe, he has much more control on the ball than the former South African.
