Lots of twists and turns were on display during the IPL 2022 clash between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Momentum enjoyed a rollercoaster ride as the game went right down to the wire with PBKS seemingly being in the driver’s seat. However, Rahul Tewatia smashed two sixes when 12 runs were needed off the last two balls, sealing the game for his side by six wickets.
Speaking of the drama, Tewatia arrived after his skipper Hardik Pandya was run out in an unfortunate manner. It was the first delivery of the final over and David Miller missed the ball and sought a run via bye. While Hardik also ran towards the striker’s end, he never seemed keen. As PBKS wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow executed a direct hit, Hardik had to walk back as he was well short of his ground.
Hardik Pandya was furious with his dismissal
The GT captain was evidently furious with his dismissal as he lashed out at Miller. The South African international was also stunned as the game seemed to have gone out of GT’s grasp. Nonetheless, Tewatia had other plans as he turned the Brabourne Stadium into Sharjah, hammering two sixes off the final two balls to dismantle PBKS once again, much like he did in the 2020 season.

Meanwhile, opener Shubman Gill laid the foundation of PBKS’ triumph, scoring 96 off just 59 deliveries. Besides him, Rashid Khan also played a vital role, scalping three crucial wickets. GT have now won their first three games in IPL 2022 and advanced to the second place in the team standings.
Skipper Hardik was elated with the result as he lauded his teammates after the game. “With the kind of ups and downs that happen, I have become neutral. Hats off to Tewatia. It is difficult to go out there and hit, and to do it under this pressure is great. It was Kings’ game, I have sympathy for them. Gill is telling everybody that he is there,” said the all-rounder after the game.
