PCB chairman Ehsan Mani backs Sarfraz Ahmed as Pakistan skipper

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has been under scrutiny of late for his indecisive on-field tactics. He has often been questioned especially in the longest format for his team’s underperformance in Test cricket. However, Sarfraz got the backing of the newly elected Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Chairman Ehsan Mani as the leader of the national team.

Sarfraz has been the flag-bearer for his national team and led them to glorious victories. Ever since he was asked to captain the side, Pakistan has been one of the better fielding sides, it has certainly been their best fielding phase ever. The wicketkeeper-batsman has emphasized on the fitness of the players and been a strict taskmaster in order to compete with the best in the world.

Mani backs the skipper

Mani, who was elected as the PCB chairman two months back, sees no flaws with Sarfraz’s captaincy rather appreciated him for the commendable job that he has done for the team in the past few years.

“I think this (captaincy) issue has been unnecessarily raised for a while now. As the PCB chairman, I feel Sarfraz is doing a great job as the Pakistan captain across all formats. He was first appointed (as the T20 skipper) by Shaharyar M. Khan and then became captain of one-day and Test sides with the passage of time,” Mani told reporters at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in the vicinity of the National Stadium.

The team is in right hands

Mani also upheld the 31-year-old for the results that he has produced with a team of youngsters. He went onto credit the coach, Mickey Arthur for the way he has handled the team. “Our team has been performing very well in recent times and there is tremendous camaraderie in the ranks. The credit for this definitely goes to Sarfraz and Mickey Arthur. The results speak for themselves and Sarfraz’s own form is extremely good now,” Mani was quoted as saying by Dawn.

The chairman brushed aside all questions pertaining to Sarfraz’s tenure as the skipper of the team. “There is no doubt in my mind over Sarfraz being the Pakistan captain. We have full trust in his leadership qualities. So the question of who is going to lead at the (2019) World Cup is meaningless,” he stated.
