The ongoing contest between Australia and Pakistan is garnering some significant attention from around the globe with the level of competition both the teams have shown. As the second Test is approaching the business days, it is the ‘host’ Pakistani side that has the upper hand in the contest. While the Pakistani fans are hoping to see their side register a win soon, the cricket board back home is pondering over the idea of hosting Australia on the Pakistani soil soon.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani expressed his desire to see the Australian team compete against Pakistan on their own soil. He cited the examples of the touring teams like Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Windies, that proved they can play a good host again. He is optimistic about the chances of international cricket returning back to Pakistan on a regular basis.
Things have been grim for the PCB as they have struggled to invite ‘stronger’ nations to play cricket in Pakistan. Ehsan Mani noted that the Cricket Australia should definitely consider playing in their country.
“I am yet to meet people who once they’ve been to Pakistan have any concerns about going there. On the sidelines, we’ve certainly raised this with them, that they should consider this. Obviously, Cricket Australia’s got a new CEO, he’s got to go back and do his due diligence,” cricket.com.au quoted Mani as saying.
Wish to see the Big Three in Pakistan
Commenting further on the similar lines, the PCB chief remarked that it is only a matter of time before the international cricket becomes a regularity in Pakistan. He noted that the success of the PSL matches in Lahore and Karachi is a testament to the fact that full capacity cricket is on its way back to the country. He reiterated that the things will only get better if the bigger nations like Australia, New Zealand, and England tour Pakistan.
“It will certainly happen sooner or later. It’s a matter of comfort levels. We are getting PSL matches played in Pakistan, foreign players are coming for that. We’ve had a couple of other teams come and play, but I really want Australia, New Zealand, England to come,” the PCB chief mentioned.
