Australia are scheduled to play at least an ODI series against Pakistan in March in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying its best to bring the tournament to Pakistan. It’s the same series where tainted cricketers in Steve Smith and David Warner are expected to make their international comeback after the ball-tampering scandal in March last year.
Cricket in Pakistan has been going through a rough patch ever since the Sri Lankan bus-attack in 2009 following which cricketers from around the globe became reluctant to travel the war-stricken nation. Even the Pakistan Super League has witnessed a few stars backing out for the same reason. Meanwhile, incoming PCB managing director Wasim Khan sounded hopeful about Australia touring Pakistan.
We have a great passion for the game
“I will ask the question. We will continue to offer them the highest level security and, if they have any concerns, we will act to meet them. It will probably be a process of baby steps. I need to sit down with other boards and ask them: where are the gaps in our plans that worry you? What can we do to assure you? What will it take to get you to come back?” Khan was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.
I want to hear what concerns they have and find a way of meeting them. We have excellent facilities. We have a great passion for the game. If we can get more foreign players coming to Pakistan more often, hopefully we can normalise playing in the country again,” he added.
International cricket resumed in Pakistan in 2015 when Zimbabwe played a couple of T20Is and three ODIs against the host nation at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Thereafter, the World XI took part in a T20I series in 2017. Even Sri Lanka and Windies have played in Pakistan in the last one year so. Moreover, the PCB officials are trying to bring the whole of PSL to Pakistan itself.
