PCB responds after a Pakistan Women cricketer returned home on a bike from the airport
The PCB also made it clear that the players who opted for going home with their parents or families wished to do the same seeking permission from the team manager.
The video of a Pakistan Women’s team cricketer returning home with her father on a bike caught the headlines recently. Voices were raised against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its negligence towards the women cricketers and the board issued a statement clarifying the transport arrangements for the women’s team following its return from the ICC Women’s World Cup.
PCB’s statement:
According to the board, arrangements were made for the Women’s team on their arrival to the country. A bus was allotted for the players to carry them to the National Cricket Academy and then to their respective homes.
“The PCB wishes to clarify that as per the usual practice all logistical arrangements were made for the national women’s team on their arrival from England, Monday, June 17. There was a bus ready to take the players to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and from there to their homes if needed,” the board said in a statement on Thursday.
The PCB also made it clear that the players who opted for going home with their parents or families wished to do the same seeking permission from the team manager. The board expressed their disappointments over the fake news that has been circulating in the media.
“Officials from the Women’s Wing were present to facilitate the players and management, some of the players though opted to return home through their own transport with their families after seeking due permission from the team manager. The PCB regrets news items in certain sections of print and electronic media that erroneously claimed that there were no arrangements made for players’ return from the airport,” the statement read.
If reports are to be believed, there were no PCB official at the airport to receive the returning players. No bus or any other means of transport was arranged for the players to carry them home. The video which went viral on the internet featured cricketer Nashra Sandhu returning home with her father on a motorbike.
Pakistan had a World Cup to forget as they lost all their seven matches finishing rock bottom of the table.
