India wicket-keeper-batsman MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi hosted a dinner party for the Indian team and its support staff members at their plush residence in Ranchi on Tuesday, ahead of the third ODI against Australia. The cricketers enjoyed the occasion and shared pictures on their social media account. Among those who posted images from the dinner were India captain Virat Kohli and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
India are in the lookout for their fourth consecutive bilateral ODI series victory since the loss to England last year. They are leading the five-match series against the Aussies 2-0 after the hard-earned wins in Hyderabad (by 6 wickets) and Nagpur (by 8 runs) and a victory in Ranchi will see them take an unassailable lead. India beat Australia in a three-match ODI series Down Under in January and a win in Ranchi will give them their fourth successive 50-over series against the Kangaroos at home.
Kohli took to posting a photograph from the dinner on his Instagram account. In the photograph, a bespectacled skipper is seen with Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhoni, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant. Chahal and Pant are yet to get a game in the ODI series after appearing in the two-match T20I series that India lost 0-2.
In the caption of the photograph, Kohli thanked Dhoni and the food and the ambience and called it a “perfect team evening”. Chahal also shared a photograph of the entire team posing for the camera and thanked the Dhonis for hosting the team.
Dhoni drove around Jadhav and Pant in his Hummer
Earlier, MS Dhoni was also seen driving team mates Kedar Jadhav and Pant in his Hummer in his home town. The former India captain is known for his passion for cars and bikes and has a whole lot of them that he rides on whenever he is in Ranchi.
Dhoni hit a match-winning fifty in the first match in Hyderabad – his fourth successive one against the Aussies since his rampage Down Under in January but fell for a first-ball duck in the second match in Nagpur. The 37-year-old is not known to have a good record with the bat in Ranchi but on Friday, the fans will hope to see him in full flow in what is being seen as his final international game in home town.
