The word ‘youngsters’ and ‘opportunities’ have become a synonym to the Indian Premier League. Over the ten years of the IPL, we have seen careers being built and players getting the much-needed recognition. The Indian Premier League is a long tournament and provides players from all over the world with several opportunities to excel and make giant progress in their cricketing career.
Sandeep Lamichhane became the first player from Nepal to be picked up by an IPL franchise. He was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 auction. The leggie had to wait for eleven games before finally making his debut. He conceded just 25 runs and picked up a wicket in four overs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Peter Della Penna, cricket journalist at ESPN Cricinfo was impressed with the youngsters that pop up and perform in the Indian Premier League.
A solid platform for youngsters to prove their mettle
Penna tweeted: “ABDV on @IamSandeep25 debut: “He’s 17-years-old, it’s admirable in a way. I don’t know how all these youngsters come out & keep performing like that. There’s so many of them keep coming out every IPL season. It’s great for Indian cricket & great for cricket around the world.” Though the Daredevils lost the game, it was a day to remember for Sandeep who still has a long way to go in his career. The leggie might have just played his first match but seemed to bowl like an experienced spinner.

Parthiv Patel was Sandeep’s first ever victim in the IPL and he will surely remember this for his entire life. He would be hoping that this performance would provide him with further opportunities in the playing XI. With the Daredevils already knocked out of the tournament, they can afford to test their bench strength and come back stronger next year.
With the IPL closing in on the final stages, it will be interesting to see as to which teams make it to the playoffs. The Sunrisers have already sealed one spot as they sit pretty at the top of the table with 18 points. There is a three-way tussle going on between Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The three teams need to win all of their remains games to make it to the final four.
