New Zealand has had so many players that have come in and have done their job extremely well. Peter Fulton was one such player. His career for the Kiwis was short lived and not the one that made noise in the cricketing world but was just another career started and has ended.
Peter Fulton from New Zealand announced his retirement from the first-class cricket. He played for Canterbury and was one of their main players. Peter has scored loads of runs in first class cricket, 10569 to be specific. He played 162 first class games 288 innings and had an average of 39.88 which is pretty good considering the number of innings he played. He also has a triple century to his name.
Canterbury is one of the most successful domestic sides in New Zealand. They have won three out of last four Plunket Shields, which is a massive achievement.
The Christchurch-born Fulton made his first-class debut back in 2000-01 season and played for Canterbury for 17 years. He also went on to make his Test for debut New Zealand in 2006 against West Indies. His International career was in patches as he played 23 Tests and 49 ODIs for his countries. The Canterbury-man played his last Test also against the West Indies in 2014.
He has two centuries in the Test matches which came in the same Test against England in 2013. He scored a total of 967 runs in Test matches at an average of 25.
Fulton sounded humble when said that he never thought he would ever represent Canterbury or New Zealand. He was extremely proud to have represented his country and feels lucky to have experienced success with Canterbury. He said, “From making my debut, I never would have thought I would play this many times and achieve these records for Canterbury.”
“At that stage, I was just stoked to play one. When I was growing up I had dreams of playing for Canterbury and New Zealand, but when I was younger I didn’t think I was going to do it. I am very proud to have played that many games and experienced so much success with different Canterbury teams throughout my career,” exclaimed Fulton after announcing his retirement.
