Peter Handscomb keen on emulating Ajinkya Rahane in the near future

Peter Handscomb and his cricketing career have gone up from strength to strength as he has been more than just a valuable replacement for the likes of Adam Voges and Mitchell Marsh. Handscomb’s half-century in his most recent innings against Pakistan at the MCG has also seen him solidify his place in the side with the tour of India also in hindsight.

However, when speaking of emulating batsmen, Handscomb has stated that he would like to emulate Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane who is perhaps one of the best players of spin in the world. “I’ve been doing a fair bit of work trying to emulate that, guys like (India top-order batsman) Ajinkya Rahane, who’s an amazing player of spin,” he said to cricket.com.au.

Handscomb also spoke on the importance of playing spin bowling well. In previous tours to the subcontinent, the Australians have capitulated to the spin bowling of the Indians. Moreover, in recent times as well, the teams that have toured India and Bangladesh have had issues whilst playing spin bowling.

Handscomb hopes that playing the sweep shot in India will perhaps be the key against good and quality Indian spinners bowling in home conditions as well. He also added that playing spin in training was a bit easier as well.

“I’ll probably try and get a wicket at the MCG that can turn, so I can get a little bit of practice there before heading over (to India). We actually did it once before we came up to the SCG in a Shield game, and it’s all about training hard so that when you go out into the middle, it’s easier than when you were training. It’s never easy out in the middle (on spin-friendly pitches), but it makes it a little bit better.”
