Peter Siddle pens a two-year deal with Essex

Australia’s veteran fast bowler Peter Siddle has committed himself completely to Essex for the next couple of years. He has signed a two-year contract with the County side after playing seven matches for them in two intervals in the ongoing season. In the four matches at the start of the season, he scalped 20 wickets for them and then came back after a short break and has thus far picked 17 wickets in the last three games. Neil Wagner filled in as his replacement in the due period.

Siddle was thrilled to commit himself to Essex and was delighted to be able to represent them until 2020 now. He hasn’t played for Australia since 2016 but the fast bowler looks to be competitive in whichever game he plays.

“I have loved my time at the Club so far with the players and staff giving me a great welcome, and I really feel part of the team at Essex. As an overseas player, I am always committed to taking the whole experience in and not just picking up my money and being on my way at the end of a contract,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Excited to play alongside Cooky

Alastair Cook is also set to play for Essex next year as he will be hanging his boots at the highest level in the next few days. The 33-year-old Australian is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the legend and was excited to play alongside him.

“I’m also really excited to play alongside Cooky [Alastair Cook], we’ve had some really great battles in the past and it’s going to be fun to play on the same side as him rather than against him,” Siddle added.

Meanwhile, the Essex head coach Anthony McGrath welcomed Siddle and also hailed him for the wealth of experience and talent he brings to the squad. “We are ecstatic that Peter has agreed to be with us for a further two years. We have all seen the qualities he brings to this squad and complements our bowling attack perfectly. He has a wealth of experience and the professional attitude he applies every time he heads out onto the field is commendable,” he said.
