Phillip Hughes dies after being hit by a bouncer: Australian cricketer Philip Hughes who suffered an injury during a Sheffield Shield clash between South Australia and New South Wales the cricketer was hit on the back of his head by a bouncer from NSW pacer Sean Abbott. Hughes was instantly taken into medical care and two days after being induced into coma he lost the battle and was declare dead.
Cricket Australia broke the news and in its statement said“We are extremely sad to announce that Phillip Hughes has passed away at the age of 25”.
“Our thoughts go out to Phillip’s family, friends, and the entire cricket community on this incredibly sad day.”
“He was not in pain before he passed and was surrounded by his family and close friends, “As a cricket community we mourn his loss and extend our deepest sympathies to Phillips family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”Cricket Australia said.
This incident has come as a shocker for the cricketing universe as something as severe was never seen happening on the cricket field. If reports are to be believed the injury caused to Hughes by the impact of the ball played a minor role whereas the trauma caused by the hit gave him a heart attack. The team of medics had to give him mouth to mouth resuscitation and efforts were made to revive him. (Here is the video)
There was an emergency surgery carried on and was induced by doctors at the St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. The doctors did not observe any change in his medical condition and was on life support until the moment on Thursday afternoon when he took his last breath. Australian cricketers and team mates visited their ailing friend.
It is also learnt that the first test match between Australia and India starting December 4 might be called off as mark of respect and homage to Philip Hughes.
