PIL in the Madhya Pradesh High Court against Sachin Tendulkar's Bharat Ratna
PIL in the Madhya Pradesh High Court against Sachin Tendulkar’s Bharat Ratna: On Thursday, the Madhya Pradesh High court admitted a PIL imputing misuse of the Bharat Ratna by Sachin Tendulkar. The reason quoted by them is Sachin Tendulkar’s indulgence in the commercial advertisements even after receiving Bharat Ratna.
It is the nation’s highest honor and it was directed to the Solicitor general to seek whether there are any Supreme Court guidelines on the use of the award of promotion of commercial products by awardees of country’s highest honour. Chief Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice KK Trivedi issued the order while hearing a PIL accusing Tendulkar of promoting commercial products after being bestowed upon the Bharat Ratna.
Bhopal based petitioner VK Naswah has expressed his displeasure and discomposure with Sachin notwithstanding a Bharat Ratna awardee promoting commercial products on television. The petitioner alleged that Tendulkar took advantage of being a Bharat Ratna awardee and misused the award of sanctity for commercial purposes.
Using this award for commercial purposes is illegitimate, he said before the court. Court has directed the assistant solicitor general to inform within a week if there is any rules or guidelines related to Bharat Ratna awardees not being allowed to recommend commercial products. Tendulkar endorses more than 12 brands including Aviva Life Insurance, MRF, Boost, Luminous, etc. Arguably the greatest cricketer of all time, Tendulkar with a bat between his palms is one of most admirable players. Still there has been no reply from the side of Tendulkar for this allegation.
