Pitch at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati offers to be a belter of a track
We should not worry about rain: Curator
The second T20I between India and Australia is scheduled to be hosted at the brand new Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, home to the Assam Cricket Association (ACA). The pitch is expected to suit strokeplay as Australian captain David Warner described the wicket as ‘fantastic’.
The newly built stadium will now become the 49th International venue to host a match. The Curator of the pitch is hopeful that pitch would be full of runs and also favour the spinners.
“The wicket looks fantastic. The first game being played here it’s going to be a special one for both teams. Hopefully, we can get across the line and get that first victory here,” commented Australian captain David Warner according to Sportskeeda.
Even though Himachal Pradesh was bowled out for a modest 36 on this wicket last year, curator Mukut Kalita remained optimistic about the pitch claiming that it was due to lack of application from the HP batsmen that the pitch saw such a low score.
We should not worry about rain: Curator
“Our best effort is to make the match memorable by making a wicket full of runs. We have seen this wicket favour spinner in the domestic cricket but for tomorrow, I hope it would produce a lot of runs,” commented Mukut Kalita, curator of Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati.
“There was some rain and the wicket was undercover so it became damp. But the batsmen showed complete lack of application,” Kalita said briefing about the excellent drainage facilities in the newly built stadium. “We should not worry about that now. It’s a sporting wicket and we hope it will be a memorable one.” added the curator.
“We just cover the wicket in case it rains, that’s enough as the high sand content facilitates drainage in no time,” concluded Kalita. The last time crowds of Guwahati witnessed an international match was against the Kiwis back in 2010.
