South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi’s trademark telephone celebration during the first T20I against Pakistan nearly turned ugly when his teammate Pite van Biljon tried to pull a prank on him. Pakistan beat the Proteas by 4 wickets in the series-opener to take the lead in the four-match series. The incident happened after the left-arm spinner dismissed veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez.
On the very first ball of the 14th over, Shamsi had Hafeez stumped out. The right-handed batsman, who was playing his 100th T20I, danced down the track to play a big shot but was beaten by Shamsi’s googly. Hafeez could not return to his crease in time as Heinrich Klaasen took the bails off with ease to give Proteas their third wicket.
Soon after the dismissal, the spinner took off his shoe and held it near his ear, as if he were calling someone. He had done the same celebration earlier in the game too when he dismissed Fakhar Zaman. But unlike the first time, van Biljon decided to have some fun at the expense of Shami on the second occasion.
As Shamsi was talking to Klaasen after his celebration, van Biljon cheekily hid the boot inside his shirt and walked away in a hilarious turn of events. Even the commentators were laughing as van Biljon walked away with the shoe inside his shirt.

Pakistan pull off a record chase
Talking about the first T20I, Pakistan pulled off their highest successful run-chase in the shortest format of the game. Batting first, the hosts posted a challenging total of 188 for 6 in the stipulated 20 overs. Aiden Markram and skipper Klaasen scored fifties for the Proteas. The score, however, was not enough for the home side to start the series with a win.
Pakistan chased down the total with a ball remaining thanks to Mohammad Rizwan’s brilliant 74-run knock. Towards the end, Faheem Ashraf’s cameo of 30 runs off just 14 balls helped Pakistan cross the finishing line. Earlier on the tour, Pakistan had won the three-match ODI series 2-1.
