Essex and Lancashire are currently facing each other in the ongoing County Championship at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The hosts have been bowled out for a total of 301 as they are fighting to skittle their opposition out in order to secure the crucial lead. However, during a contest in the middle, the play was halted with one of the spectators facing a medical emergency.
The third day’s play had just begun as Graham Onions was delivering the 64th over of the innings. But after a couple of deliveries in the over, the play had to be stopped as one of the fans in the crowd started feeling uneasy. The air ambulance landed on the outfield soon in order to help the person taken ill. It provided the transport to the fan and took him to the hospital in time.
There is no update as of now regarding the health of the person but the move from the authorities concerned has to be hailed. They stopped the proceedings on the 22 yards and gave priority to the medical emergency. The play resumed after some time as the over was completed by Onions.
What about the game?
As far as the state of the match is concerned, Simon Harmer and Adam Wheater are fighting it out in the middle for Essex as they are aiming to take a lead in the first innings. They are currently in 243/6 in response to 301 posted by the hosts as the duo has so far added 32 runs for the seventh wicket. Alastair Cook is the highest scorer for them in this innings as he scored a patient knock of 58 runs off 102 balls with 10 classy boundaries.
For Lancashire, Onions has picked up a couple of wickets while Joe Mennie has struck thrice. The other bowlers also have to step up and scalp wickets if they are hoping to skittle the tail as soon as possible.
