IPL 10: Players of Kolkata Knight Riders single out their favorite cricketers

The Kolkata Knight Riders is a happy bunch of cricketers at the moment. They have been doing a great job in the IPL 2017. The team has managed to get their combinations right and look like a team to beat in the tournament. Recently, some of the big stars of the team were asked to pick their favourite cricketers. While some of the names that the players took were pretty obvious, a few choices were quite surprising too.

In conversation with veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle for Cricbuzz, the players singled out their favourite stars from the current generation. Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir was to the point as he always is. When asked to pick his favourite player from the current lot, Gambhir replied with a word – AB de Villiers.

Robin Uthappa has also been an integral part of the KKR line-up. Uthappa was slightly conventional in his pick. He chose legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar as his favourite player. Uthappa noted that there are players in the present generation who are very good. But none can match the aura of the little master. In very heartfelt words, Uthappa described the emotion of watching Sachin bat.

“For me, in spite of seeing the likes of AB and Virat right now the way he is playing, I don’t think anything can overcome that feeling of watching Paaji (Sachin Tendulkar) bat. The sweetness with which he times the ball, and there is a finesse in the way he bats. It just feels good in the heart,” quoted Robin Uthappa.

In the current lot, he picked Virat Kohli to be the one. He noted how Kohli has evolved not only as a batsman but also as an individual. Bangladeshi all-rounder also chose Virat as his favourite Indian player from the current generation. On a wider scale, he chose Rahul Dravid to be his favourite Indian player till date. Among the Bangladesh players, Shakib singled out Mohammad Rafique as the player he grew up watching.

Kiwi speedster Trent Boult chose Dale Steyn as the best cricketer in the world at the moment. He remarked that Steyn is his idol. He always ends up being mesmerised with the way Steyn makes the red ball do the talking. Meanwhile, English speedster Chris Woakes chose James Anderson as the best bowler in the world. He also remarked that AB de Villiers is the undisputed champion with the bat in the current generation.
