Virat Kohli who made his World cup debut in 2011 with a century against Bangladesh has gone on to become one of the most prolific run getters in ODI format after the 2011 tournament.

Along with MS Dhoni, he has ensured India’s victories most of the times when India chases. His astonishing 18 centuries in chases in ODIs has been a record in itself. Kohli has won India games chasing against SriLanka in 2012 Tri Series in Australia where India needed 327 runs in 36 overs to qualify for the finals. His 136 runs helped India chase the total down in 35 overs.

Apart from this, he has captained India to a 5-0 series win against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe, a first for India. Set to take the captaincy reigns from MS Dhoni once he calls it a day, Kohli has already proved he is much more capable in a leader’s role. He has matured from the brash finger showing youngster to a responsible number 3 for India. This change in attitude has rewarded him with 15 Man of the match awards in last 3 years after the 2011 World cup win.

His good form is a necessity for India to retain the champions tag in the upcoming 2015 edition of the World cup. (Also read Top 5 batsmen fastest to 5000 runs)
