Playing for Pakistan is not important for Mohammad Amir: Danish Kaneria

Mohammad Amir, the fast-bowler from Pakistan was slammed by the fans after he bid adieu to red ball cricket back in July 2019 ahead of the important tour to Australia. Now, Danish Kaneria, the former spinner has come out taking a dig at the 28-year-old and he said that Amir gave preference to T20 leagues over the purest format of the game.

The left-handed fast bowler made his international debut back in 2009. Soon, he became one of the finest bowlers for the Men in Green. The fresh and young Amir managed to attract the spotlight on the back of his brilliant fast-bowling. But, in 2010 he was found guilty for having an involvement in the spot-fixing scandal due to which the now 28-year-old was handed with a 5-year ban.

In 2015, he marked his comeback in domestic cricket with bang-on performances. Afterwards, Pakistan Cricket Board also came in his support and he was soon picked for the national side once again. There was no doubt that he was a brilliant and world-class bowler as he became a vital part of the Men in Green’s bowling attack.

In 2019, he shockingly announced his retirement from Test cricket. This decision from the speedster left everyone in surprise. And, the cricketing fraternity slammed him for taking such a step. However, he continued playing in the limited-overs formats.

Recently, in a YouTube video, Danish Kaneria, the former spinner from Pakistan opened up over the same. He said that PCB supported Amir when he was going through a rough patch. But, he backed out when the nation was in need of his services. As per him, the 28-year-old gave preference to league cricket over Tests.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) supported Mohammad Amir but when we needed him in Test cricket, he retired and started focusing on league cricket. Playing for Pakistan is not important for him but league cricket is,” Kaneria said in a video of his own YouTube Channel.

Earlier, Waqar Younis, the current bowling coach of Pakistan Cricket team had also said that Mohammad Amir ditched the national side ahead of an important tour to Australia. According to him, the left-handed fast bowler left them at the wrong time which was not acceptable.
