The upcoming Independence Cup between World XI and Pakistan is nothing less than a historic move, as Pakistan will be hosting a much-anticipated series after a gap of eight years. Apart from Zimbabwe, no other team has visited the terror-hit nation after the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus near Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, in the year 2009. Fast Bowler Mohammad Amir is raring to go, as he will be playing in Pakistan for the first time in his career, since making his debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka.
Fast Bowler Mohammad Amir is raring to go, as he will be playing in Pakistan for the first time in his career, since making his debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka. Amir made his international comeback in 2016, after serving the ban on spot-fixing charges. The pacer played a crucial role in lifting Pakistan to the Champions Trophy victory against arch-rivals India earlier this year.
Amir is raring to go
“For myself playing international cricket in Pakistan for the first time, is my life’s best moment,” said Amir in a video message, released by PCB.
”It is a great opportunity for Pakistanis who have been deprived of international cricket for so long, to get a chance to see international and national stars, and support both the teams” said Amir.
Opportunity for youngsters
All the three T20 games will take place in the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. World XI skipper Faf du Plessis will arrive in Lahore on September 11. And he will be joined by the likes of Grant Elliott, Hashim Amla, Morne Morkel and Imran Tahir.
“Revival of cricket in Pakistan is a great opportunity for the youngsters,” said leg spinner Yasir Shah. The leggie called on the Pakistanis to support the upcoming World XI, and come to stadiums in huge numbers.
