Even though Dinesh Karthik is 35 years old, he is still harboring thoughts of returning to the national side. And, in spite of making his international debut more than 16 years back, the Tamil Nadu cricketer could never manage to find a permanent spot in the Indian team.

However, Karthik is confident that he can still represent his side in the international arena. The biggest tournament that the entire cricketing world will be looking forward to this year is the T20 World Cup that will be held in the Indian sub-continent in the months of October and November.

And, Karthik has set his sight on a return to the Virat Kohli led side now. Not only does he want to feature in the 2021 T20 World Cup, he also wants to play the subsequent World Cup that will be held in Australia next year as well.

“Playing the next two T20 World Cups is my primary objective,” said Karthik in a chat with 100MB.

Tamil Nadu as a state has the most representation in the IPL: Dinesh Karthik

The veteran also opened up on Tamil Nadu’s stupendous run in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. The Dinesh Karthik led side won the tournament, beating the Baroda side in the final, with M Siddharth scalping 4 wickets in the summit clash. Now, Karthik has reflected back on Tamil Nadu’s campaign in the tournament.

He opined that the state’s campaign was very successful, and also added that Tamil Nadu had the most number of players featuring in the IPL. The wicket keeper concluded by stating that the Tamil Nadu side has been rewarded for playing consistent cricket over the last couple of years.

“The campaign was really successful. The outcome with respect to the IPL was also fabulous considering that Tamil Nadu as a state has the most representation in the tournament. We have about 13 players going into the tournament. It’s a testament to the fact that we have played some consistent T20 cricket in the last two years,” concluded Karthik.

Karthik will next be seen in action in the 14th edition of the IPL. He is hugely experienced in IPL cricket, and has featured in a colossal 196 matches in the league. And, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cricketer is all set to become only the third cricketer to feature in 200 IPL matches. And, if he can produce a good performance with the bat in the 2021 IPL edition, he might once again start knocking on the doors of the Indian side.
