In their first match of the Super 4 of the 2018 Asia Cup, Afghanistan had the opportunity to register their maiden ODI victory against Pakistan. However, Shoaib Malik held his nerves and carved a three-wicket win for the Men in Green in a cliffhanger, which went right down to the last over. Sarfraz Ahmed and Co required 10 runs to win from the final over of the match.
Fast bowler Aftab Alam, who didn’t have an overwhelming outing, was entrusted to take the Afghans home. Previously, he conceded 54 runs in his nine overs without any success, though he bowled a maiden early on. Malik was on strike with speedster Hasan Ali, who deposited Rashid Khan over the roped in the penultimate over, at the other.
Aftab upset after he failed to take his team home
The experienced batter couldn’t score off the first ball. The bowler attempted a slower bouncer in the very next delivery. However, Malik got himself into position in a flash and deposited the leather into the stands for a humongous six. The pressure clearly unnerved Aftab and he bowled down the leg-side in his very next delivery and the Pakistani middle-order batsman flicked the ball away over deep square-leg.
The ball sped away to the boundary and Malik erupted in jubilation. On the other hand, Aftab was distraught. He sat on the turf and covered his face with his jersey. Thereafter, Malik came up to him and consoled him with a pat on his back. Hasan Ali also encouraged the bowler. Nevertheless, Aftab is finding it hard to forget the last over.
Today, he posted a picture where he can be seen in tears. The result of the match can also be seen in the picture. He captioned the picture and wrote, “Pleasessssss forgive me. love you afghanistan ,”
