'Please respect your stars' - Mohammad Rizwan voices his support for Mohammed Shami over online abuse
Shami has been at the receiving end of online abuse after India's loss to Pakistan on Sunday.
India lost to arch-rivals Pakistan for the first time in a World Cup ever on Sunday (October 24). Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, played very good cricket on the day and thumped the opposition by 10 wickets to create history. Even the team India players and the fraternity, along with the fans, praised the Men in Green for their performances. But it was unfortunate that Mohammed Shami had to deal with abuses online after the loss.
The pacer didn’t have a great day with the ball as he conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs without picking up a wicket. But it wasn’t only him who had an off day. A lot of current and former Indian cricketers came out in his support on Monday slamming the fans for abusing him in the comments section of his posts on social media.
The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and Virender Sehwag were a few of the cricketers who voiced their support for Mohammed Shami amidst the abuse he had to face. And now, Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has also asked the fans to respect the star players of the country while clearing his stand in the matter.
This game should bring people together, says Rizwan
Rizwan highlighted the kind of effort a player puts in to give it his/her 100% for the country and also felt that cricket is a sport which brings people together. The 29-year-old also termed Shami as the one of the best bowlers of the world.
“The kind of pressure, struggles & sacrifices a player has to go through for his country & his people is immeasurable. @MdShami11 is a star & indeed of the best bowlers in the world. Please respect your stars. This game should bring people together & not divide ’em #Shami #PAKvIND,” Rizwan wrote in his tweet.
Mohammad Rizwan was one of the best players for Pakistan against India. Opening the innings, he stitched a record unbeaten partnership of 152 runs with captain Babar Azam to script a memorable win for the Men in Green.
