Poll: Should India swap Ravindra Jadeja for Amit Mishra?

India is currently having a great time in the Caribbean leading the 4-match series 1-0. The batsmen are among runs while the bowling attack has had a good impact on the opposition playing the chief role in India’s success so far. Even after a draw in the second game, Indian will begin the 3rd Test at Jamaica as the clear favourites.

But, India, despite all the positives by their side, seems to be lacking in a couple of things, especially in the bowling department. The five-bowler bowling attack apart from the three fast bowlers has two frontline spinner – Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra.

While the off-spinner has been more than effective in the two games, Amit Mishra somewhat has failed to create a thorough impact. Thus the spin bowling duties have been rested largely on the shoulders of Ravi Ashwin. The good things is that Ashwin hasn’t let anyone down and has lived up to the expectation by taking 13 wickets in the two Tests so far. But, Mishra has been more like a sidekick to Ashwin. Bowling with a far less amount of influence from the other end. The series hasn’t been bad for him.

He has worked hard and there hasn’t been a dry outing for him in any of the four innings so far. But, a few people think that wouldn’t Ravindra Jadeja’s nippy left-arm spin create better results? This brings us to the question whether Team India should opt for Ravindra Jadeja instead of Amit Mishra as Ashwin’s bowling partner for the third Test starting next week at the Darren Sammy Stadium.

Ravindra Jadeja:

First and foremost, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have been the best spin bowling pair for India in recent years. Both work like magic in tandem.

Jadeja’s style of bowling suits any sort of slow wickets mainly because of his accuracy and speed. He gains extra points for this abilities. In the last Test series that he played against South Africa in December 2015, Jadeja took 23 wickets from just 4 games. Another advantage which Jadeja bring with him is the batting abilities.

He can certainly spend some time in the middle and score runs as a lower middle order batsman. This becomes the added advantage of having Jadeja in the side. To conclude, Mishra has got his chances in the first two games and now it feels appropriate to give the left-arm spinner a go.

Amit Mishra:

Amit Mishra has had the word struggle written all over his career. The leg-spinner has always been through an immense grind to find a spot for himself in the team. Mishra is not an awesome bowler. He bowls with a good loop and varies his leg-breaks with googlies nicely to keep the batsmen thinking. But, unfortunately, from what we have seen in the first two games, the tracks seem to become sluggish after each passing day making life difficult for slow bowlers.

But, if there no bite off the pitch then the loopy leg breaks tend to become ineffective. It was plainly visible in the fourth innings of the second Test when Roston Chase was digging it out for his team’s survival. Mishra bowled with great zeal in both the games but the conditions and, apparently, luck doesn’t seem to be favouring him.
