Over the years, the game of cricket has been a witness to a number of cricketers breaking glasses with some scorching strokes. This time around a woman cricketer grabbed the headlines when she smashed the scoreboard with a thunderous shot. Pooja Vastrakar made her debut during India’s recently concluded tour of South Africa.
The Madhya Pradesh-born cricketer has already impressed with her impressive foray into international cricket. In the ongoing series against Australia Women, she has already emerged as a fierce striker of the cricket leather. In the first ODI at Vadodara, the 18-year old notched her maiden half-century and became the first batswoman to score 50 runs at or below number nine in the lineup.
Even in the second game at the same venue, the youngster displayed her skills with the willow. She scored a breezy knock of 30 runs off 33 balls, which included a couple of boundaries and a colossal hit over the hopes. Meanwhile, she also decimated the scoreboard through a massive hoick over the mid-wicket region off left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen.

Pooja- A skillful prospect
Apart from her abilities with the willow, she also is a useful fast bowler. She played five T20Is against South Africa at the Rainbow nation and dished out four wickets in the series. Meanwhile, she also finished the series with a staggering economy rate of 6.05. She has played three One Day Internationals against Australia and hasn’t picked up a wicket thus far.
India has struggled in the ongoing series against Meg Lanning’s women. They faltered frantically and have slumped to defeats in the first couple of games. However, Pooja Vastrakar’s performance has been a big positive for the Indian team. The final game and the dead rubber will be played at Vadodara on March 18 and Mithali Raj’s girls would be hoping to end the series on a high.
