Poonam Yadav donates INR 2 lakh to aid in the fight against Coronavirus pandemic
Yadav was the driving force behind Indias's success in the recently-concluded ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Australia.

The coronavirus has been spreading like wildfire across the globe. The global pandemic has caused a sense of emergency throughout the world. The health care facilities have been falling short in some places to provide to everybody. At the time of writing this, the total number of cases in India is 1,071. The total number of people who have died of the deadly virus is 27, while 100 people have successfully recovered from it.
The Indian Government had announced a 21-day lockdown until April 15. The situation of lockdown has created a huge problem for poor people living in the country. In fact, due to the lack of transport facilities, it has been difficult to send essential amenities to each and every part of the country. In these desperate times, many famous cricketers and celebrities have come forward to make their contribution. Indian Women‘s spinner Poonam Yadav also decided to make a contribution to the nation’s cause.
‘It’s a tough time for the country’: Poonam Yadav
The leg-spinner from Uttar Pradesh has donated INR 2 Lakh for the fight against coronavirus. She has decided to give INR 1 Lakh each to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) and Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund.
“In this tough time for the country, this is the only way we can help the people because we can’t go out of our house neither we could allow someone to come in,” Poonam said in an interview with Women’s CricZone. “I was thinking of donating for a long time. Actually I was about to pay yesterday (March 29) but the amount limit in Google Pay (an online transaction platform) is Rs 50,000. So I tried through some other platform today and it finally it happened,” she added.
Poonam Yadav was the driving force behind Indias’s success in the recently-concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The leg-spinner has bowled superbly throughout the tournament carrying her team till the final, where they lost to the hosts. She picked up 10 wickets in five innings. She was the leading wicket-taker for India in that tournament.
Other than her, a young player from Bengal, Richa Ghosh also contributed INR 1 Lakh to West Bengal State Emergency Relief Fund. Another teammate of Poonam, Nuzhat Parween donated a secret amount to the PM-CARES Fund. Recently, the Board of Cricket for Cricket in India also contributed INR 51 crore to the PM-CARES Fund.
